Medical Technician

This position is located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) at the VA Medical Center in Beckley, WV.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
o Maintaining laboratory facilities, equipment, and supplies;o Monitoring specimens, equipment, and the environment for contamination;o Calibrating, controlling, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation and equipment;o Maintaining and controlling laboratory records;o Maintaining complete and accurate records of all test results, and preparing reports of data collected and tests performed;o Documenting quality control measures and taking corrective action on deviations from established limits;o Recording information pertaining to the storage of specimens or reagents and maintaining a tracking/inventory system for these supplies;o Performing specimen collection, labeling, accessioning, distribution, and storage;o Preparing diagnostic reagents and reference materials;o Performing diagnostic tests that may be new and involve very fine distinctions;o Determining the validity of test results and potential causes for invalid results;o Preparing solutions and special stains, smears of body fluids, and histologic materials (tissues, sections, blocks, etc.
);o Decalcifying and processing bone specimens;o Performing related duties as required.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Work Schedule:
Rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
