WHAT DOES A ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN DO? As an Accounting Technician you will have responsibility of a full range of administrative accounting tasks and also function in the operation of the automated financial system. Some of the programs you will be responsible for include:
Accounts Receivable, Deposits and Collections, Cash Reconciliations, Reimbursables, Obligations, Disbursements, General Ledger and Subsidiary Records Reconciliation, Accounts Payable, Travel, and Relocation. As a Accounting Technician you will:
Review accounting documents and transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations; process transactions, compute changes and determine if these are legitimate. Responsible for programs that require special skills, i.e., balancing and reconciliation, coding, contract interpretation, and tax processing, etc. Support the reconciliation of difficult transactions to balance related control accounts; identify any discrepancies and initiate corrective action, including preparation of accounting code changes or payment corrections. Train new employees concerning correct accounting procedures and problem areas. Perform research; assist in conducting cost or trend analyses from accounting records for the finance office. Process invoices, vouchers, debt collections, reimbursables, receive reports and obligations to meet the applicable laws. Prepare and review documents ready for disbursement in compliance with IRS, Treasury, and GAO regulations. Provide advice to facilitate the exchange of information among all employees involved in the accounting and budget areas. You must have 1 year of specializedexperience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Knowledge of established and standardized bookkeeping and accounting procedures and techniques to classify accounting transactions, maintain and reconcile accounts; basic knowledge of automated and manual processing procedures, existing accounting systems, standard accounting codes, classifications, terminology, and relationships to process a limited range of work. ORYou may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
A Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university.GS-06 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specializedexperience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
demonstrated broad knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including the concepts of an accrual accounting system; analyzing financial date to identify trends, averages, problem areas, etc.; knowledge of accounting transactions and vendor codes, automated financial system and other software programs and applications; and knowledge of the automated financial systems and other software programs and applications in financial operations sufficient to ensure that all transactions utilized in the system abide by standardized procedures or exception reports are prepared noting transactions that deviate from any standardized procedures.GS-07 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specializedexperience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and understanding of accounting principles including the concepts of an accrual accounting system; ability to analyze large amounts of statistical and narrative material; and knowledge of relevant accounting practices and policies, computer processes, accounting transactions and vendor codes, automated financial system and other software programs and applications sufficient to ensure that all transactions utilized in the system abide by standardized procedures or exception reports are prepared noting transactions that deviate from any standardized procedures.For Grades 6 through 07:
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. - The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis.- To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
