Supervisory Security Assistant (Temporary NTE 1 Year)

The Supervisory Security Assistant will perform initial facility screening related duties by asking agency approved Pre-Screening questions regarding COVID-19, conduct a No Touch Thermometer check, and follow directions provided per standard operating procedures and directives. The incumbent must always wear a face mask and safety vest when performing assigned duties. The incumbent will verify access and ensure individuals that can proceed into the main building are issued a pass and provided a face mask, unless the individual(s) are already wearing or in possession of one. Incumbent will maintain accurate radio/alarm and incident logs at assigned duty location to include dates, observations times, and results of communications and activities to identify, enhance and improve physical security of the facility. Provides pedestrian and vehicle traffic control at designated locations of the Beckley VAMC or specified CBOCs identified above in addition to monitoring facility access control and directing where to gain access if necessary. The Incumbent maintains situational awareness while monitoring and controlling ingress/egress to VA property ensuring people accessing the facility have a genuine need to do so by verifying appointments or employment All other related duties as assigned. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
knowledge of emergency communications, experience performing the duties of a police dispatcher or 911 operator, Planning work schedules, distribution of work and providing quality customer service. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The work is primarily sedentary in nature in an office environment. Most duties can be accomplished form a sitting position. The mental stress however, is much more demanding then the physical stress, because of the split-second decisions that must be made as a fire alarm goes off, telephones ring, and radio communication requesting instructions or information. Incumbent must have a keen sense of hearing in responding to audible/visual signals of wire communication receivers, and occasionally weak radio transmissions or signals. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
